English Week, themed ‘Lock Tao Voices for the Earth’, was a dynamic celebration that combined language learning with environmental awareness. Students were introduced to diverse creatures on Earth, fostering respect for all living things and promoting empathy. As global citizens, we aimed to help students understand their responsibilities and the importance of ecological security, emphasising both conservation and social morality.
The week began with ‘Music Broadcast’, featuring our theme song, ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’, along with five different songs for each particular level. ‘Song Appreciation’ allowed students to analyse lyrics and explore the messages behind the music, encouraging engagement with English while highlighting the value of ecological balance.
Class-based activities included ‘Penmanship Competition’ for S.1–2 students, promoting neat writing and reflection on the lyrics, and ‘Crossword Puzzle’ for S.4–5 students, enhancing vocabulary related to the theme and boosting cognitive skills. Our three game booths—‘Mountain’, ‘Ocean’, and ‘Sky’ (MOS)—created a lively atmosphere during lunchtime, allowing students to participate in English-themed challenges and win prizes.
The highlight, ‘Lock Tao Good Voice’, showcased talented students on a mini stage in the covered playground, spreading messages of environmental protection through the English songs discussed earlier.
Morning Reading Sessions on the topics ‘Pangolins: The World’s Most Wanted Animals’ and ‘Plastic Pollution Threatens Paradise: The Maldives’ offered extended learning opportunities for junior and senior students, respectively. Talks on biodiversity and interdisciplinary activities provided interesting facts about reptiles and opportunities to see these animals up close.
The week concluded with ‘Prize Redemption’ for those who achieved the status of "A Six-Star Global Citizen" on their Earth Passport, celebrating students’ active involvement. Overall, English Week was a successful initiative that fostered both English proficiency and environmental consciousness.
